Wiggly Phonics: The active reading club

from £25.00
sold out

Don’t just say the sound, STOMP IT!

Wiggly Phonics is a small-group, inclusive space where wiggling isn't just allowed—it’s the method. While our "Low Demand" approach is a haven for neurodiverse children, the science of sensory integration benefits every growing brain. By engaging the body first, we regulate the nervous system, making the mind receptive to language acquisition.

Our sessions are grounded in the belief that children learn best when they are regulated and engaged. We use our signature Wild Bristol Reading & Regulation Deck to combine systematic phonics (Set 1 sounds) with somatic movement.

Every sound is anchored in a local reality:

  • The Sound: We learn the phoneme (e.g., 'O').

  • The Local Anchor: We connect it to Bristol wildlife (e.g., The Otter).

  • The Movement: We use specific actions like the Otter Roll (a vestibular reset) or the Nest Rest (deep pressure). These movements help organize the brain for focus, whether a child is neurodivergent or simply high-energy.

What to Expect in a Session

This is a high-energy, high-engagement environment designed to support Proprioception, Vestibular processing, and Executive Function—skills that are essential for reading readiness in all children.

  • We use high-intensity movement to create letter shapes and wake up the body.

  • We build words using hands-on tools to lock in motor memory, making spelling tangible rather than abstract.

  • We sandwich our learning with calming regulation techniques to ensure every child leaves feeling grounded.

  • Whether we are acting like otters in the River Frome or hiding like mice in a nest, we bring the natural world into every lesson.

Who is this for?

  • KS1 Children (approx. ages 5–8)

  • Inclusive to All: While specifically designed to be accessible for neurodiverse learners, this group is perfect for any child who finds the traditional classroom environment constraining.

  • Active Learners: If your child learns by doing, touching, and moving, this is their space.

Location: The March Block of Wiggly Phonics has been postponed

Please join the mailing list by filling out a contact form and we will be in touch about the next block.

Time:

Group Size: Strictly limited to ensure a calm, focused environment (Max 10)

Pricing: At Whole and Wild we operate using a Solidarity Pricing Structure. This helps to keep the base cost low, and allows those who can afford to pay a little extra to support the local community. The extra funds are used to provide low cost and scholarship spots to those in need, identified in partnership with local primary schools.
